Time for renewal
The Hersenbank had been using a web application since 2013 that allowed researchers worldwide to find brain tissue. But the system was due for an update. “The application process was still manual, using documents that researchers had to email,” explains Mignon. “That took a lot of time and was prone to errors. We wanted to modernize the process, make it more user-friendly, secure, and future-proof.”
Smart solutions, short lines of communication
The Websteen team had also developed our system in 2013. They understood exactly what we needed. Together, we went through the entire process, from searching for tissue to submitting a request. What I particularly appreciated was the communication. They are technically very strong, but they can also explain it. That is rare. You can have people who are excellent at what they do, but cannot communicate it. Websteen can. They translate our world into the IT world, and that works very well.
Smart solutions, short lines of communication
The Websteen team translated the Hersenbank’s requirements into a completely renewed web application. Researchers can now search for tissue online, apply filters, and submit requests directly. The application automatically checks whether all required information has been filled in and sends confirmations or rejections automatically. “That saves us a huge amount of manual work,” says Mignon. “The collaboration went smoothly. Communication was quick and direct, and they always thought along with us. And if we said, ‘That doesn’t quite work for us,’ they would look for an alternative solution without any fuss.”
Future-proof and proud
The renewed application went live in April 2025. Mignon: “It is a professional, secure, and future-proof application that makes the work of researchers and the Hersenbank team easier. We now have a system that is ready for the future. The work of the Hersenbank does not stop. Thousands of new donors will be added, and research into brain disorders will continue. That we can contribute to this work with this application makes us proud.”
